NewsReduce risk of contracting foodborne illness when consuming shell eggsTo avoid contracting foodborne illness, handle fresh eggs carefully. Even eggs with clean, uncracked shells may occasionally contain bacteria called Salmonella that can cause an intestinal infection. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that egg producers obtain chicks that are certified Salmonella free, that the hens are kept in houses that are free from rodents and other Salmonella carrying sources, that the houses are continually tested for Salmonella, and that the eggs are stored at temperatures that retard Salmonella growth. Fall FellBY Jack Boardman - Guest Author
Meteorological Fall fell on September first because meteorologists like to keep things orderly and considering they can't seem to keep the weather orderly, that makes perfect sense to me. After an unusually hot, humid and not to mention—wet summer, I'm all over this fall-phenomenon, with it's cooler, dryer air and with some luck the changing color of the leaves without too many windy days accelerating their journey to the ground. The truth of the matter is: Fall is my favorite season. Why not Summer? I don't golf. I'm not a fisherman, although I understand some folks even like ice fishing in the winter. If I want ice, I simply get some from my freezer; I suppose wild ice probably tastes better. I don't go to the beach, the mere thought of myself subjecting the innocent to me dressed to swim... Winter. The only winter activity in which I participate regularly is the sport of “Snow Removal,” and although I like the first five or six snow events; it gets old about the first of January. I don't ski; you know the cartoon where there are single ski-tracks going in each side of a tree? That would be me; only the tracks would only go halfway around the tree. I've already discussed ice fishing and ice skating always ends badly for me. I like Spring well-enough; it is the harbinger of Summer, which in turn is the harbinger of Fall. But Spring carries the reminder of Winter and teases us with tastes of Summer. It is fickle. I drive a van delivering auto-body and mechanical parts for a local auto retailer, and generally accumulate between 150 to 250 miles each work-day year around, so I get to experience the vastly-different weather first-hand and I have come to appreciate the challenges each season brings. With meteorological fall already in progress, this coming Tuesday all the schools will be in session bringing one more big challenge: there will be herds of yellow school buses on the roads for the first time since last spring collecting masses of youngsters to safely deliver to and from school. The buses aren't there to get in your way or to complicate your commute; they are there to transport our most valuable resource, our children. Watch for the buses and the children and be particularly careful these first weeks of school; our children are counting on you. Take a ride on the environmental crazy trainAfter reading and watching Al Gore's fictional "An Inconvenient Truth", James Lee hopped aboard the environmental crazy train with a one way ticket to the Discovery Channel headquarters to help save the world. After hiring homeless people to help in march in protest, he figured he would take it up a notch or two. He armed himslf with a gun and some bombs and took some employees hostage. Benefits of a parent telephone logConsistent communication between guardians and school staff members is vital for student success. The exchange of information builds trust and helps both parties understand the student’s situation. With an average of 180 school days in a year and 6-8 hours in a school day, many conversations are bound to happen between staff and parents. Most staff choose to document these conversations for future reference.
Since parents and staff interact mostly via telephone, the parent phone log is an excellent tool for documentation purposes. The log sheet is a blank grid that typically organizes...
